Imagine a world where the role of dice determines your adulthood at the age of 12. It is a terrifying starting premise of a new game with a surreal atmosphere between Tim Burton and Salvador Dali aesthetics. In addition, electronic Arts announced Lost in Random, a game part of EA Original due by the end of 2021.
The game takes place in a bleak, dark world called Random, and we follow the story of two sisters with clever names Even and Odds. The plot starts at Odd’s 12th birthday.
Ticket to the Rest of the Life
Mad Queen rules the Kingdom of Random for as long as inhabitants remember. Every person has their moment of truth at the age of 12. The children receive the honour to roll the dice on their twelfth birthday. Unlike rolling a dice in a live casino where you can win prizes or lose your bet, the people of Random play for the outcome of their lives. Children who roll one will live in Onecroft, the most inferior part of the Kingdom, and will probably struggle to survive. Those who role a three will have a place in Threedom, one of the realms of Random destroyed by civil war. The number six brings the ultimate reward, luxury life in the Dark palace next to the Queen, or so the inhabitants think.
Breaking the Curse of the Dice
Even is crushed when her sister gets six and goes to the Queen. A year later, Even gets an unusual signal that takes her to the mysterious Valley of Dice. She finds an unexpected companion in a living dice. The two characters from the bottom of society team up, and Even with her friend Dicey starts to unravel the unhappy Kingdom.
Lost in Random Gameplay
The adventure will take Even and Dicey throughout all six realms in the Kingdom of Random. In this fantasy action-adventure, developers designed gameplay similar to Little Nightmares. Travelling through the Random, protagonists will meet quirky citizens. They live by the roll of the dice, and therefore the dialogues can wander off in a weird direction.
There are numerous quests, weird and disturbing enemies, and the primary mission is to find Even’s sister Odds, uncover the Queen’s secret and liberate the Kingdom of Random from the random determinations. Unfortunately, all we can say about the combat systems come from the official teaser trailer. It is an action game, and battles are in real-time. And Even has melee and ranged weapons with unique designs like a sling.
EA Originals game still doesn’t have the definitive release date, but Electronic Arts announced it would be in 2021. Lost in Random will be available on launch for PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. Zoink Games studio is behind the development of the new EA Originals title, and they already created the first game under this EA Brand. Fe came out in 2018 with similar aesthetics but a different genre. It was a 3D puzzle platformer with relatively good reviews from the critics and a level above from the gamers.
